Hey guys!
Today's post is a novel by Grace Lin, "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon". It's not really a stand-alone book, as part of it ties in with another of her books, "Starry River of the Sky", but it's not really part of a series either. The summary isn't mine, only edited. Enjoy!
Grace Lin – Where the Mountain Meets the Moon
In the valley of Fruitless Mountain, a place where everything is bleak, a young girl named Minli spends her days working hard in the fields and her nights listening to her father tell fantastic tales about the Jade Dragon and the Old Man of the Moon. Minli's mother, tired of their poor life, chides him for filling her head with nonsense.
But Minli believes these enchanting stories and embarks on an extraordinary journey to find the Old Man of the Moon and ask him how her family can change their fortune. Along the way, she meets a dragon, who is a painting brought to life, who soon becomes her good friend and comes along, as he wants to know how he can fly.
Along the way, she finds two things that could possibly be the borrowed line, which is needed to get to the Old Man of the Moon: a red string of destiny and a page from the Book of Fortune. Eventually, she does manage to get to the Old Man of the Moon – but she can only ask one question. Then, she learns that fortune is not gold or riches – it's to be happy and thankful for what you do have.
